NaNoWriMo Rocks!

I love my new novel! I've had so many amazing surprises already, like a fun character who popped up a few times, then insisted she become an important part of the story. That happened last year, too. I had an annoying boy named Stinky in a couple early scenes. He refused to stay in the background, and turned into one of my favorite characters. Just yesterday, I received an e-mail from someone saying she loved Stinky's transformation into someone desirable and likeable.

I hit 14,330 words before going to bed last night, and hope I'll be able to keep up this pace. This story has been haunting me for years, and it feels amazing to see it come alive so quickly.

I hope everyone else is having an amazing NaNo, too! And I can't wait to hear about all of your stories.

You are kicking butt and taking names! I so can't keep up with you this year! My novel's slow going but I have today off and also Thursday for a doctor appointment so hopefully, I can make more headway on the book with the time available.

Thanks, Jodi. You really kept me going last year--I couldn't believe how fast you wrote, especially while working. You could probably start halfway through the month and still make the NaNo goal!

I'm sure your muse is coming out of her chocolate coma and will lead you to writing 5,000 amazing words tomorrow. I can't wait to hear about your WIP. I'm writing my first fantasy, and it's so much fun creating a world where I determine the rules!

Wow you are flying through this novel, Mindy. Keep it up!!! I think I might officially sign up today, even though my goal will be much less than 50,000K. I love the icon/page-counter-thing (very official definition, right?) too much to pass up using it.

Thanks! And yes--definitely sign up for NaNo. The counter-thing (which I think is called either a widget or ticker) is fun. And it doesn't matter how big your goal is--anything extra you write because of the NaNo push makes you a winner!

For me, it shows how much work I can do if I make my novel my priority. Of course, I'm hopelessly behind on e-mails, LJ, and Facebook now, and my dish tower is in danger of toppling over. When NaNo is finished, I'll allocate a little more time for other online activities again.

Good luck with your project! I hope you have an amazing writing day tomorrow. :)

Revisions always feel so much slower than writing a new novel. Are you giving yourself mini celebrations along the way? Or maybe you can promise yourself a massage, pedicure, or trip to the bookstore when you finish this round.

Holy cow!! I haven't even begun writing. I almost started last night, but played a game of spider solitaire instead. And then there were chores and Meaghan's dance observation. I'm so bad. No discipline at all.

You have discipline, Brenda. And you can still make your goal for the month--there's lots of time left. Are you working on something new or using the NaNo push to finish the novel you've been running through our group?

Thanks for the congrats. I just hit the halfway mark,and am absolutely loving my novel!

How is everything going with you? I'm missing the Poconos Retreat this year because my brother is getting married that weekend(it will be the first time I've missed it since 2005). I'm not sure if I'll be able to replace it with another conference, but I'm looking into NESCBWI. Any chance that you'll be there?

I hope you had a great writing day! And yes--the NaNo rules do say to start something new. But...I've also seen friends successfully finish a project that they had been working on for a while, and just count the new words. If you love this new idea and want to go with it, that's great (and I can't wait to hear more about it and read it in group). But...if your novel is calling you louder, you can use the NaNo push to finish it, if you want.

Good luck on your NaNo project! I'm so glad you took the plunge. :)
