So many wonderful book signings in Florida!

Mindy's head shot
On Tuesday, I was thrilled to attend a book signing by my mentor, Joyce Sweeney. I believe The Guardian is her fourteenth published book--very impressive! A huge crowd of people came to watch, and she sold out of every book. I can't wait to dig into The Guardian as soon as I finish my current book!

Here's a photo from Joyce's signing:

We have so many wonderful books coming out in Florida. I'm looking forward to attending signings in the next few months for authors including Alex Flinn (A Kiss in Time), Danielle Joseph (Shrinking Violet), and Gaby Triana (Riding the Universe).

I feel lucky to live in an area with so many talented authors. Joyce has helped twenty-six authors become published, and has helped me in so many ways since I joined her weekly invitation-only workshop/critique group. And I've met so many wonderful authors and illustrators since I became active in local events in 2005. I'm really excited about the Two Day Novel Revision Intensive I'm taking in June. It filled up quickly, but all the other tracks are still available for the Orlando Workshop on June 20. I'll post more information about it soon.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. :)

When I was out there last year it seemed like half the writers in Florida were mentored by Joyce Sweeney. You guys are lucky! Though I had a great writing mentor, Judy Reeves, in San Diego.

Joyce does mentor a lot of Florida authors! Word really gets around. :)

I know how lucky I am. This business can be difficult at times, and it's so helpful to have someone you can turn to for not only writing advice, but also revision requests, understanding contracts, etc.

I'm glad you had a wonderful mentor, too! And I have a feeling you've helped many aspiring authors.

How are you, besides being a lucky lucky girl?
I feel it for you......

Thanks, Mona. I'm doing well. Working hard at my revisions, so I'll have a fairly strong novel to bring to the revision workshop in June (although, I definitely won't have the entire novel run through my groups by then, but I'll get as much as possible critiqued).

I can't wait to hear all about the NESCBWI conference! I really wanted to go, but just couldn't swing it this year. It would have been great to see you in person. I can't wait to hear all about it! Do you have a critique?

I know what you mean about "making" it. It's wise for you to put your energies and money right there. You're on a roll with your writing and mentor.
I'm on no particular roll. I love the NE conference. There are so many truly wonderful friends to meet up with as well as the workshops and presenters. Cindy Lord is one of our keynotes...she is a good friend. Went to our first conference together...love her.
I do have a crit. Brenda has been a moving force for me and encouraged me to sub my Stop story. I'm still trying for the PB.
Life is good though...or life is good, though I wish it would happen.
Keep in touch.

Great picture of Joyce! I love giving her books to my teens, they always enjoy them. "Shadow" and "Spirit Window" are still two of my all-time favorite YAs and I think Joyce is probably the best at describing how it feels to fall in love with somebody when you're a teenager.

Thanks, Amanda. Joyce is also amazing at channeling her inner teen boy. Whenever any of us has a male MC, she always has amazing insights for us.

Can't wait to see you at our meeting in May! Which novel are you going to bring?

I am hoping to have had time to work on a new project by then. Most likely the followup to WATER AND HONEY, which is called A ROSE AMONG THORNS. But possibly 1000 PAPER CRANES.

How FUN to hang with your mentor at a signing. :-) I get to go have lunch with mine from time to time, and it's always such an inspiration to me.

Have a good time at the novel revision retreat. (Is that what it is, or is it just a workshop?). Either way, it's a great way to get that MS in tip top shape.

Thanks! It's a writing intensive that takes place the day before and day of our Orlando Workshop. Julie Strauss-Gabel is one of the leaders, and it is supposed to be similar to what she did in LA. I've heard fantastic things about both the editor and her LA revision workshop, so I can't wait to bring my MG to Orlando in June!

It's great that you get to spend time with your mentor, too! Being surrounded by a mentor and other writers is always fun and inspiring. :)

Ah, we finally get to see the great Joyce! I'm so glad she's your mentor. :-) I know you'll have fun at the intensive...I've never been to one.

Thanks, Pam. I've been to one day intensives, but never a two day revision intensive like this. I can't wait!
