BioI'm a writer and Mom of two beautiful daughters. My husband encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming a children's book writer. I would have written anyway, but needed a slight push to attend my first writing conference and decide to make writing children's books my career instead of a hobby.
I began writing picture books over nine years ago. Since the beginning of 2005, I've written several new picture books, a chapter book, four middle grade novels, and two young adult novels. Some of them are polished, while others are in various stages of revision. I am currently involved in five critique groups, and have successfully completed NaNoWriMo in 2006 and 2007.
I try to attend at least three or four conferences each year. I usually go to the amazing ones near me in Miami and Orlando, and have participated in the Poconos Retreat four years in a row. The 2005 New York Winter Conference was the first one I attended, and I hope to make it to the LA Summer Conference one day. I have also been to the Rutgers One-on-One Plus Conference, Chautauqua, and participate in a weekly invitation-only workshop with Joyce Sweeney that has helped twenty-four writers become published.
** My middle grade novel, IN MY HEART, won an honorable mention in the 2007 SmartWriters W.I.N. competition.
** I've had three submissions accepted by Highlights in 2007.
Here's a little personal information:
I grew up in New Jersey and have lived in South Florida since 1989.
I have a BA in Elementary Education and a BFA in Theatre.
I have a Siberian husky, two ferrets, and my daughters have a fish and a guinea pig.
