Mindy's head shot

From 3rd grade to 7th grade in one night

Starting over since I accidentally erased the post.

I went to my in person critique group last night. There were 3 other writers there. I'm so excited - it looks like we now have a dedicated group of 5 - and occasional stragglers. I absolutely love my two online critique groups - and hope we help each other throughout our entire career - but it's nice to see actual humans after staring at a computer screen for hours each day. I was thrilled to see them laugh in spots - and also made notes to revise areas where I could see the attention fading.

I have a few more changes to make to PLEASE DON'T EAT MY GUINEA PIG. It still amazes me that PB's look so simple when you see them in the stores. And you can actually write one in a short amount of time. But the revising can go on...and on...and on... Sometimes it's hard to know exactly when to stop. But I have a few more changes to do - and then hopefully it will be ready to venture out into the world.

I had a few minutes to read my newest chapter book last night. I originally wrote it as a PB, and just finished my rough draft yesterday. Another good thing about critique groups - I didn't want to submit some of my older PB's, and wanted something exciting this month - so I was inspired to work on this. I'm glad I read parts of it last night - I need to finish changing the MC from 3rd grade to 7th grade. The subject matter is way too scary for the original age group, so I think this is the way to go. Now I need to finish this so I can submit it to my online group and get back to my YA WIP - it's been screaming for my attention, and I've been neglecting it while working on other projects.

In case any of you are reading this - I want to thank all of my wonderful critique groups. I've learned so much - and my manuscripts are stronger because of your advice. I also appreciate all the support of my LJ friends - thanks for keeping me company on my journey!
