NaNoWriMo starts in nine hours! I can't believe it's here already. I'm writing a novel that has been haunting me for the past three years. Part of me can't wait to dig in. I love the NaNo push. It used to take me several months to write the first draft of a novel, and since I tackled NaNo for the first time two years ago, I love the incredible and sometimes wacky ideas that pop up, and the satisfaction of writing a first draft in less than thirty days.

I have to admit, I'm a little nervous and don't feel ready to dive into my new novel yet. I think part of it is that I've been revising a lot, and it's hard to leave those characters you know and love to start a new project. In the beginning, you have to guess what your character would say, do, or feel at times...until that magical moment when everything clicks and your main character pretty much takes over the story. Wow--I love when that happens!

Pieces of this story have been coming to me for years--I know the main plot, several sub plots, who most of the characters are (even though I might not have a crystal clear image of them yet). And I remember feeling the same way last year--when I finished revising a novel around 12:30 am on November 1st, then started to tackle my MG, Adventures of Bra Girl. I love the way that one turned out--and can't wait to dig deep into my new story.

I hope you all have an amazing Halloween. And for those taking the NaNoWriMo plunge at midnight with me--good luck on your new novel! I can't wait to hear all about your characters, plots, and rapidly growing word counts!

Here's a photo from our trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas (if I have time later, I'll download more here or on Facebook). We went for my 40th birthday, and Sammi and I played with the dolphins while Hubby and Becca snorkeled with sharks and jellyfish (I'm glad I didn't know they'd be actually swimming with sharks ahead of time, or I would have been too nervous to enjoy the amazing dolphins.) Sammi and I got to pet, hug, kiss and play with several dolphins. The picture is of Toni, who was rescued from New Orleans after Katrina.

Thanks, Sharon! Both my girls are growing up way too fast. But I'm enjoying every minute with them that I can get (okay, a few less minutes than usual during NaNo).

And thanks for the luck. I'm really loving my new novel! I just checked the word count, and I'm up to 14,330.
